Garden of Morning Calm – 아침고요수목원 – is a wonderful botanical garden in Gyeonggi, which you can reach within 1,5h by car from Seoul.

Do you know what “Morning calm“ means? The last dynasty on the Korean peninsular, from 1392 until 1897, was named as Joseon Kingdom (조선, 朝鮮). At that time Joseon was translated, or better to say, interpreted in English as “Morning calm”. Hence you can find in a lot of old travel reports or documentaries the expression “The Land of the Morning Calm”, which was equivalent to Joseon Kingdom or Korea.
The Garden of Morning calm was firstly opened in year 1996. On the whole 33ha-large area, each plan, each section, each flower was set, grown and maintained with love. While walking through the garden, you may find various kind of trees, flowers, as well as birds and butterflies, and also many types of architecture.
Talking about plans and flowers, as on the Nami Island, you can see many faces of the garden during a year, depending on the season.
Here are some impressions from my last visits:

What to do there?
Plan at least some hours or half day to enjoy everything in this beautiful botanical garden. Because you can do a lot of things here, such as…
- Have a walk, relax and take a deep breath with the fresh air,
- Fill your eyes, heart and soul with the fabulous flowers and plans,
- Sit down on the floor of a Nanok and listen to the birds tweeting,
- Take awesome photos,
- And so much more…
I personally can spend a whole day long in this garden and still not get bored.
By the way, you can also combine your visit to the Nami Island with a visit to the Garden of Morning Calm. They’re not far away from each other.
Have fun!
