In Germany, I really enjoyed rock climbing with friends. In this sport, you need to use all the muscles you have to go up high. That’s why, for me it’s one of the best sports. I used to go to the gym or outdoor twice, three times a week. Since I’ve moved to Seoul, I don’t really know neither climbing, boulder gym, nor anyone who would go out to the mountains to join.
Well, no matter… I’ve made a list with all available gyms in Seoul, would like to visit all at least once, then find out which one is the best for me, and maybe I can also find new cool climbing mates there ?!
Today was my first visit to The Climb Hongdae.
Actually, The Climb has three locations: Hongdae, Magok and Ilsan. You only have to register at one location and use the same for all. Hongdae is the one closest to me, so I decided to go there first.
I took the subway line 2, got out at Hongik University station Exit #1, turned right, then went straight along the main road Yanghwa-ro until reaching the next Starbucks coffee shop. The boulder gym is in the same building as Starbucks, only one floor higher. If you don’t know this, it may take you longer to find the location.
Once you exit the elevator, you will find the check-in desk on the right. I was welcome very friendly by the staff, got a registration form in English, a short introduction where I could find what and could start right away.
The facilities are great, clean and easy to use. There are many challenges routes, short and long for you to work out. When I was there, the staff was also creating new routes. Really looking forward to trying out those next time. ?
Besides, there are also two finger training boards, one chin up, yoga mats, books about training, as well as other training tools to improve your strength, endurance and technique.
Well, after a 5-week-break, I could only climb max. blue routes. My hands need more training… ?
