May 8th – Parents’ day – 어버이날

During the weekend, I’ve seen many small shops and stores selling flowers, especially carnations, even on holidays. I have been wondering for several days and now got the answers from some friends:

Today, May 8th is “Parents’ day” – “어버이날” – in Korea. All children will show their parents love, respect, gratefulness, and also their promise to protect them, like the parents always do for their children. The traditional presents to give are red carnations.

You can find a lot of information about the history and tradition of this day online by searching for “parents’ day in Korea”.

@our parents, who are not in Korea with us today:

We’re very thankful for everything you’ve done and are still doing for us. Thinking of you, not because today’s parents’ day, but because you’re the best parents in the world. We could not have been here today without you. Love you soooo much.

If you like my posts, please let your friends know! Thanks...

  1. This is so meaningful day! Actually, the love between parents and children is natural emotion. However, many of us don’t know how to present our feeling, but in this day, just a carnotion can help us to say a lot to our dear parents. Nice tradition!
